Living Room Project

The launch of our new Living Room Arts Project took place on 20th April.  We were all mesmerised when a lady dressed in a long black skirt, banged on our gym door looking for her son called Archie.  We followed her to the Mart so that we could help her find Archie.

We went down to the Mart and Mr Clark the managing director of John Swan Ltd told us about the history of the mart and we saw a cattle auction and a sheep auction.  It was certainly a fascinating experience; it was difficult to see who was doing the bidding.  Mrs Nailen was worried she would come back to school with a cow or a sheep if she moved her hand. 

Next we headed off to Newtown House owned by Mr and Mrs Robb.  They told us all about the area in the past and how it had been farming land at one time. 

Mr Frame of the local newagents then told us all about the railway and the different shops long ago in the area.

Back in school we followed up our visit into the local community by discussing and finding out about Newtown in the past, Newtown in the present and thinking about what we would like Newtown to look like in the future. 

Eight days packed full of art, drama, ICT and drama activities followed.  We held our Open Day on the !st May and invited lots of people to visit.  The school was packed with people and everyone loved the displays, the dance and talking to the children about the project.  What a fabulous experience for everyone!
